There are countless great cafés and bars in Barcelona where you can relax, enjoy some tasty treats, and plan your next move. Spring is on its way and many of Barcelona’s cafés have a terrace where you can power up on solar energy, and not just knock back a caffeine fix. Here’s a selection of some of the café vibes that we’re especially enjoying at the moment.
1. Tea and cakes at the Alsur Cafe
There’s nothing that a slice of Alsur’s dulce de leche cake can’t fix. If you’re more of a savoury fan, then we recommend you go for one of their home-made empanada pastries filled with spinach and ricotta, mozzarella and tomato, or a meaty filling. This Argentinean owned café pops up in two locations in the Born district; next to the Palau de la Música and in the back streets behind Santa Caterina Market. A good variety of teas are served in exquisite porcelain mugs, and their coffees are better than anything you’ll find at Starbucks.

2. Coffee from multiple parts of the globe at Satan´s Coffee Corner
Besides the rad name, Satan’s is known for its coffee aficionado-worthy blends. The idea of setting up a cool café in a window was an invention of Marcos Bartolomé, a native of La Rioja from a family of coffee-makers and who wanted to continue what he’d learnt from childhood, but in his own way.
In Satan’s Coffee Corner you can find an infinity of varieties of coffee from multiple parts of the globe: from Ethiopia to Colombia and Morocco to Jamaica. It is supplied by Right Side (Castelldefels) and Cafés El Magnífico (Barcelona) and varies depending on the month of the year and the harvests of the coffee countries. It’s a comfortable place to enjoy your morning coffee or sit an enjoy a more leisurely breakfast of fresh pastries, cold-pressed juices and delicious seasonal dishes which vary depending on the fresh ingredients that arrive from the market every morning.Just a five-minute stroll from the Barcelona Cathedral, Satan’s Coffee Corner provides a respite from the hustle and bustle of the city, deep in the heart of the city’s tourist-laden Gothic Quarter.

3. Organic Goodness at the Blueproject Café.
Carrer Princesa stretches from Jaume I metro and Via Laietana all the way to the Ciutadella Park. Lateral streets take you to some of the most important sights in the Born, such as the Picasso Museum, Santa María del Mar and the new Born Cultural Centre. But if you keep walking until you nearly reach the park, you’ll spot the Blueproject Gallery, a contemporary art space with some of the most exciting exhibitions in town. Its adjoining café is the culinary equivalent. The arty, eclectic ambience is as delicious as their all-organic cakes, biscuits, raw vegan menus and fair trade teas and coffees. A great place to meet with friends or spend a pleasant morning or afternoon.

4. High quality at Nomad Coffee
Lovers of good coffee are in luck. The beauty of this tucked away location is that not too many people notice Nomad Coffee because of its more secretive location, which means that the place won’t be overcrowded and there is enough space for coffee lovers to enjoy their warm beverages in peace.
Jordi Mestre is the award-winning master barista, owner and founder of this fantastic moka laboratory located in the magical Passatge Sert, in Poblenou (as well as a second site in El Raval neighbourhood). You will find freshly harvested and in season coffee. Therefore, every 3 or 4 months the varieties on the menu vary a lot depending on the time of year. The coffee is carefully selected and roasted by the café themselves with the care that each variety requires. They study with meticulous precision all their extractions and measure all the infusions to the millimeter to get the best out of each coffee and be able to adapt it to the taste of each drinker. If you’re not sure what to ask for, let yourself be advised by these magnificent baristas!

5. Art and Carrot Cake at Cosmo Café
Probably one of the best art cafés in Barcelona, its walls have exhibited the work of many up and coming local artists who have gone on to present their works to galleries and festivals. You’ll find a nice pile of magazines in the entrance to flick through and browse. Carrot cake, muffins and walnut cake are a few of the sweet highlights, and their sandwiches are about as good as they get in Spain. Cups of coffee and hot chocolate are generously topped with foam, cream and chocolate sprinkles, and freshly squeezed juices and milkshakes provide a healthier alternative.
