Exhibitions this September in Barcelona

Exhibitions in Barcelona

Barcelona is brimming with culture! Whether you’re interested in art, design or history, the Catalan capital is sure not to disappoint.  Home to a whopping 55 museums there are plenty of events to look out for. Here we have outlined some of the must-see exhibitions that you can catch this September.

BjorkBjörk Digital

When: until 24th September 2017

Where: CCCB, Carrer de Montalegre, 5,  08001 Barcelona

Barcelona welcomes Björk Digital to the CCCB. This incredible virtual reality exhibition has been touring the world and stunning its audiences with the amazing work of the iconic Icelandic artist.

Using some of the latest technologies available in the field the exhibition takes you through a 90 minute tour of this dynamic artist’s work. Through performance, video, cinema and interactive elements the eponymous artist has orchestrated, together with the help of some experts, a unique experience that explores the deeper themes behind her latest album ‘vulnicura’. Her latest album was inspired by her recent separation from her partner and the rawness of her music is also expressed in this exhibition which gives technology a soul.

David Bowie is

When: until 25th September 2017

David Bowie is without doubt, one of the most iconic artists of our time. His amazing story and impact on pop culture is currently being told at the Museum of Design Barcelona at the ‘David Bowie is’ exhibition. The incredible installation has already travelled across many important cultural centres and has received more than 1.5 million visitors accross the globe.

This international retrospective dedicated to the artist contains over 300 different items from his own private collection. Spanning the 5 decades of his time in the lime-light, the collection displays his whole career from start to finish and provides a unique insight into the singer’s personal life.

Brian Eno: Lightforms / Soundforms

When: until 1st October 2017

Where: Arts Santa Monica, La Rambla 7, 08002 Barcelona

Sometimes the smaller galleries hide some of the most amazing ideas. Brian Eno’s lightforms/ soundforms is a truly unique marriage between imagery and sound. His work  ’77 million pictures’ found on the second floor is revolutionary. The lights and images change to produce (as the name would suggest) over 77 million pictures, which you can see constantly evolving in front of you. The best bit is that this amazing installation is completely free!

Giorgio de Chirico

When: until 22nd October 2017

Where: CaixaForum, Avinguda de Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia 6-8, 08038 Barcelona

Being held in the Caixa forum you will find the poignant works of Giorgio de Chirico on display. The Italian artist, born in Greece, was a pioneer in classicism in Europe and known for having founded the metaphysical scuola artistic movement. He was influenced by his Greek upbringing and plays on the clash of past and present. Many of his paintings have a melancholic eeriness. Make sure you check out this exhibition for its truly impressive works.

Olympic WorkBarcelona ’92 images: The Olympic work

When: until 26th September 2017

Where: Espai Mercè Sala – Diagonal Metro, Rambla de Catalunya, 123, 08008, Barcelona

This summer marked the 25th anniversary of the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona. The Olympic Games were not only an incredible array of sporting events based in Barcelona, but also a huge turning point for the city due to it’s renovation project leading to the development of beaches and ringroads, known as rondas. As well as this, ponds and fountains increased by an impressive 268%, including Barcelona’s most iconic fountain, Font Màgica de Montjuïc (the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc). The display will show images of how Barcelona looked before the games and since. Located in Diagonal Metro, this is definitely an exibition that shouldn’t be missed!
