Spring in the air, the Easter bunny has hopped out of its chocolate wrapping and been thoroughly munched, and the blossom in Barcelona’s trees is falling to the ground as tender green leaves start to dress the trees for summer. So if the trees are getting a new outfit, what about you? Is it time for some Barcelona shopping? When that springtime urge for something fresh and pretty starts to stir in your loins then take a whirl through these five of our favourite Barcelona boutiques.
1. Feminine cuts at Coquette
This elegant space has high ceilings and a carefully designed interior that makes you feel fabulous as soon as you enter. One glance at the shop assistants reveals that they know what a good outfit looks like, and as soon as you start fingering the rails they’re ready to step in with any advice you may want.
If you prefer to browse alone that’s ok too. You’ll find a good selection from fashion hotties such as Chloé, Tara Jarmon, Vanessa Bruno, and plenty more. Fabulous handbags and accessories also lurk within temptation’s reach in this classy Barcelona boutique.
Carrer del Rec, 65
2. Street Style at the KR Store
Bold prints, hip-hop shapes and urban attitude permeates this small boutique, which is tucked away on the same street as the famous Quatre Gats restaurant. Combine a striking t-shirt with a pair of your favourite jeans and trainers, or bag yourself one of those cute dresses and get ready for the first terrace parties of the season.
Carrer de Sant Pere Més Alt, 50
3. Urban Fashion from Depeche Barcelona
Barcelona’s Gothic quarter is a hotspot for shopping in Barcelona, and is renowned for its quirky boutiques and alternative shops, and Depeche is one of the reasons why. This independent store first opened in Holland and has proved to be a hit with Barcelona’s dedicated followers of fashion.
You’ll find plenty of those big name brands who manage to stay just on the right side of the cool-or-commercial line, such as Replay, Indian Rose and No.L.Ita. If your inner rebel has its hand on your wallet then check out the latest proposals from the likes of Last Wild Angel, Religion, My Ass and Scotch&Soda.
Carrer de Cervantes, 2
4. A Glint in the Gothic’s eye
Glint’s black and white chequered tiles draw you in, and every girl can move like a queen in here. It’s the kind of shop you’re more likely to stumble across rather than manage to find, as its right in the heart of Barcelona’s old town maze. Kudos if you make it, and we suggest you have a good rustle through their eclectic selection.
Look out for the house brand Anaoana, and small collections from independent designers such as Poêts, Komoloka and Calavéricos Perdidos. Their young style isn’t for everyone, but Glint’s collection won’t leave you indifferent.
Carrer dels Banys Nous, 22
5. Dharma in Gràcia
“The best moment is right now” proclaims the name of their own brand, and if you’re not vibing with that, then maybe you need a spot of retail therapy? And where better to start than the Gràcia neighbourhood which has plenty of little gems like Dharma sprinkled along its streets.
Minimalist and stylish lines and neutral colours take centre-stage here. Elegant shirts proclaim that “less is more.” If you find an item that works for you here snap it up, as it’s sure to become one of the gems of your wardrobe.
C/ Verdi, 69
Barcelona is full of great stores and stylish independent boutiques. Some of the best neighbourhoods for shopping in Barcelona are the Born, the Gothic, Gràcia and the Eixample around Diagonal and Rambla Catalunya. However, if you don’t need any new clothes to feel that spring freshness you’re in good company. The conifers that live in the forests look magnificent all year round and so do you.
