You and your family may soon be arriving in the wonderful city of Barcelona and are looking for ideas to plan your days during your trip.  

With so much information available online, it can sometimes be quite difficult to figure out which attractions and activities are worth adding to your itinerary. 

From lively neighbourhoods and beautiful parks to interactive museums, historic buildings and family-friendly attractions, Barcelona has plenty to offer. Whether you’re travelling with toddlers, teenagers or somewhere in between, there are lots of ways to explore the city and keep the family entertained.

Places to visit 

Barcelona’s neighbourhoods with children 

The Gothic Quarter 

Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter can feel like a giant maze for younger visitors, with narrow streets, hidden squares, ancient buildings and unexpected details around every corner. Turn your walk into a family challenge by looking for gargoyles, Roman remains and the mysterious skull beneath the Pont del Bisbe.  

The Sagrada Familia 

The Sagrada Familia, a famous monument recognised by UNESCO as a world heritage site, is a must-see during your stay. Built in 1882, the emblematic Sagrada is the most visited monument in Barcelona. Make sure you and your children spot the embedded details that Gaudi has added to the structure such as animals, fruit and plants hidden in the façades.

Montjuïc  

During your stay, a stop at the top of Montjuic is a must. If the magic fountain is operating during your visit, its evening light and music displays can be a fun addition to a family day around Montjuic. Check the official Barcelona City Council programme before visiting, as schedules can vary. 

On top of the hill, you will find the Montjuïc Castle which is situated atop a 213-metre-high city mountain and can be reached on foot or by cable car for more of an adventure. Gorgeous parks and gardens surround this area, as well as many famous monuments such as the MNAC (National Art Museum of Catalonia). Whether you are alone, in a group, a couple or with your family, this place is ideal to enjoy breathtaking views over Barcelona’s coastline. 

Beaches: La Barceloneta or Bogatell  

You have probably heard of La Barceloneta, the city’s most popular beach regularly crowded by tourists. 

However, if you want to relax, build sandcastles with your kids or just walk along the coast, we recommend  Bogatell beach located in the Poblenou neighbourhood. This beach tends to be a little less packed, especially during the busy summer period. If your family is feeling active, you can also hire bikes and cycle along Barcelona’s seafront, combining a day at the coast with a fun way to explore the coastline. 

Barcelona’s Parks 

Ciutadella Park 

The Ciutadella Park is one of the largest green spaces in Barcelona with more than 280,000m2 to explore.. 
It is the ideal place to go for a stroll, have a picnic, play on the many playgrounds or relax outdoors. One of the park’s most popular sights for children is its life-sized stone mammoth, a fun spot to stop for a family photo. You can also admire the impressive Monumental Waterfall and explore the paths and gardens throughout the park. 

Ciutadella is also home to the Parliament of Catalonia and Barcelona Zoo, making it easy to combine a relaxing morning in the park with another family activity. 

Horta’s Labyrinth Park  

Located in the Horta-Guinardó district, Park del Laberint d’Horta is home to Barcelona’s oldest preserved garden and its famous cypress labyrinth, where the challenge is simple: find your way to the centre and then work out how to get back out.  

Take advantage of this playful, fun and unique park not far from the city with free entry on Wednesdays and Sundays! 

Joan Miró Park 

Before reaching the impressive Plaça Espanya, the Joan Miró Park will allow you a quiet moment in the heart of the city. On the way, admire the 22-metre high Dona i Ocell sculpture created by Joan Miró. 

Barcelona Olympic Parc 

Barcelona’s Olympic Park, located on Montjuïc, is one of the most iconic reminders of the 1992 Summer Olympic Games, an event that helped transform the city. The area is home to several important Olympic venues, many of which are still in use and open to visitors today. 

The Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium is free to visit, and you will also be able to see the Torre de Calatrava, Montjuïc’s Communications Tower which is shaped like an athlete carrying the Olympic torch. 

If you or your children are sports fanatics, you can visit the Joan Antoni Samaranch Olympic and Sports Museum which features interactive spaces with advanced technology to learn more about the history of sports in Barcelona. 

Bunkers del Carmel  

The Bunkers del Carmel offer some of the best panoramic views of Barcelona, making them a great spot to see the city from a different perspective. Located on Turó de la Rovira, this historic viewpoint offers sweeping views stretching from the Mediterranean to the surrounding hills. 

This viewpoint is best suited for families with older children who are comfortable walking uphill. If you’re travelling with a pushchair or very young children, Montjuïc with its cable cars and escalators may be a more convenient option for enjoying impressive views of the city.

CosmoCaixa  

Interactive and exciting, the CosmoCaixa Museum offers visitors a wide range of activities and exhibitions related to science. This unforgettable journey through science is free for under 16s and only costs 8 euros for adults over 16. This is definitely one to explore with your little Einsteins! 

Chocolate Museum  

The Chocolate Museum takes you on a journey through the origins of this much-loved delicacy. From its arrival in Europe to its growth in popularity and its benefits, discover the incredible history of chocolate. For those with a sweet tooth, don’t forget to stop by the museum shop to take some chocolate home with you! 
This gourmet visit is free for children under 7 years old and 8 euros for general admission.  

Big Fun Museum 

Big Fun Museum is one of the most original and fun museums in Barcelona. Packed with illusions and entertainment, the Big Fun Museum is perfect for spending time with the family. Labyrinths, amazing 3D installations, themed rooms and much more. Let yourself be transported through different worlds for half a day. Don’t forget your camera to take the best shots. Fun and smiles guaranteed! 

Special offers are available for friends, families and groups, and admission is free for children up to 4 years old. For an even more complete experience, you can purchase a combined ticket for the Big Fun Museum and Museum of Illusions, giving you access to both attractions in one bundle. 

Museu Blau 

The Museu Blau is the natural science museum of Barcelona. It offers multiple temporary exhibitions and a variety of activities for children. It’s exhibitions and impressive collections take you on a journey through millions of years of history, while a range of family-friendly activities make it an interesting and educational visit for children too. 

The entrance fee is 6 euros per person. 

CaixaForum Barcelona  

Dance, music, workshops, performances, projections… CaixaForum offers a varied programme of cultural and artistic activities for the whole family. This cultural and educational centre is a great place to introduce children to art, science and creativity through engaging exhibitions and hands-on experience. Places to Explore 

Park Güell + Gaudi Experience 4D  

What would a trip to Barcelona be without a visit to the famous Park Güell? It’s an obligatory stop during your stay. Stroll, have a picnic, rest, and relax in this magnificent Gaudí park. 

Bring a touch of madness to this family day by opting for the Gaudí Experience 4D. This 4D and augmented reality experience will allow you to get to know Gaudí and his works in a unique way. Enter the creative world of this genius and enjoy a fun experience for children and parents.  

The basic admission is free for children under 6 years old, 13.5 euros for 6 to 12 years old and 18 euros for general admission. You must add 9 euros to the price of the ticket to participate in the 4D Gaudí experience. The park also offers guided tours and different ticket options, so you can choose the experience that best suits your family and your visit. 

Botanical Garden  

The Botanical Garden in Montjuïc is a haven of tranquillity and covers more than 14 hectares. It is home to thousands of plant species from all over the world. Stroll through diverse Mediterranean landscapes in a completely unique atmosphere. The garden is free for children and 5 euros for adults. What’s not to like? 

Places not to be missed 

Camp Nou Stadium 

Amateurs, football fans or Barca supporters? Visit one of the biggest clubs in Europe: Camp Nou. Experience the true passion of Barça while visiting the grounds, museum or booking an interactive VR experience. As of 2026, the stadium is currently undergoing renovation so check what the current tour includes before booking. 

The prices of the visit start at 20 euros for children over 5 years old. There is a vast option of tickets combining the museum and visit of the stadium as well as various experience tickets. 

Poble Espanyol 

Poble Espanyol is a unique open-air architectural museum located in Montjuïc. Wander through its charming streets and squares and admire buildings inspired by different regions of Spain, all without leaving Barcelona.  

It’s an especially fun place to visit with children thanks to its family-friendly activities. One of the highlights is The Archaeological Adventure, a scavenger hunt where families explore Poble Espanyol while solving riddles and completing challenges.  

During the summer months, the venue also hosts live music concerts and special events, making it a lively place to visit throughout the day and into the evening.  

Entertainment activities 

Attractions in Barcelona 

Tibidabo Amusement Park  

For a fun family day out in Barcelona, head to Mount Tibidabo. Home to Spain’s oldest amusement park, the Sagrat Cor church and its iconic ferris wheel. With spectacular views over Barcelona and attractions for all ages, it’s a must-see when exploring Barcelona with kids. Admission is free but the attractions are not.

The Aquarium 

Discover the underwater world at Barcelona Aquarium, one of the most popular family attractions in Barcelona. See sharks, rays, colourful fish and penguins, and explore interactive exhibits designed to make learning about marine life fun for children. 

Prices start at 23 euros for children over 3 and 30 euros for adults.  

Tip: buy your ticket online and get a 10% discount on your entry fee.  

Barcelona Zoo  

Founded in 1892, Barcelona Zoo is one of the city’s most popular family attraction. Located in Ciutadella Park, the zoo is home to a wide variety of animals from around the world and offers educational activities and experiences for children, making it a great option when visiting Barcelona with kids. 

Tickets are priced at 13.90 euros for children aged 3 to 12 and 23 euros for adults but there are family rates available. Visit their website for more information. 

3) Excursions 

Rent a Boat  

For a different way to explore Barcelona with the family, take a boat trip along the Barcelona coast. From private sailing tours to family-friendly cruises, there are plenty of options to enjoy the Mediterranean, go for a swim or watch the sunset. It’s a relaxing and memorable way to see Barcelona from the sea. If you don’t want to bother with renting a boat, there are also simpler cruises available such as the Golondrinas. Prices start at 10 euros per person. 

Tourist bus  

One of the easiest ways to explore Barcelona with kids is on a hop-on-hop-off sightseeing bus, such as Barcelona Bus Turístic or Barcelona City Tour. Along the way, you can see some of Barcelona’s top attractions and landmarks while enjoying panoramic views and audio guides.  

With a 24-hour ticket, you can hop on and off at different stops to explore the city at your own pace, making it a convenient option for families. Prices and routes vary, so check the operator’s website for the latest information and choose the route that best suits your plan. 

4) Things to do Outside of Barcelona  

Water Park: Illa Fantasia 

Illa Fantasia is a water park located less than 30 minutes from Barcelona. With 20 slides, 3 giant pools and an extensive picnic area, it’s the perfect place to relax and cool off with the family during the hot weather. Spread across 7 hectares, the park offers attractions and spaces for visitors of all ages!  

There is also a free shuttle bus from Premià de Mar station and free car park. The price is 21 euros for children under 1m20, above this height it is 33 euros.  

Port Aventura 

For thrill seekers, PortAventura World is a fantastic family day trip from Barcelona. Located near Salou, just over an hour’s drive from Barcelona, the park offers exciting rides, family attractions and themed areas for all ages. You can also cool off at the nearby Caribe Aquatic Park.  

Tickets start at 50 euros for both PortAventura Park and Ferrari Land and there can be discounts on the 2-day passes.  

Montserrat  

An hour from the centre, hidden in the middle of the mountains, you will find Montserrat. A jewel of a place that houses a monastery and incredible views. This monastery attracts pilgrims from all over the world and is the most important religious refuge in Catalonia.  

Montserrat is the ideal place to visit if you have older kids, teens or children who are used to walking long distances and hiking. 

Montseny Natural Park  

Another great location to go for hikes around Barcelona is the Montseny Natural Park. This park offers some of the best views in Barcelona. It was even added to the UNESCO World Network of Biosphere Reserves in 1978. There are many routes available to explore the nature and mountains. Take a look at their website, to find the most convenient route for you. 

Tip: Bring a picnic with you to these gorgeous outdoor spaces and stay for the day to enjoy the beautiful landscape at all hours. 

5) Practical Information and Tips 

• During your stay, you will be able to enjoy many free activities. To make the most of it, don’t hesitate to organise your day with our guides so that you don’t lose a minute! 

• Regularly check the websites of the attractions you wish to visit as there can be discounts available throughout the year. 

• There are also many deals and days you can visit Barcelona’s museums for free. For example: most museums are free every day for children under 16 and for adults every Sunday or Saturday from 3pm and every first Sunday of the month. 

• Book major attractions in advance as monuments and key places such as the Sagrada Familia and Parc Guell tend to sell out weeks in advance, especially during the summer months. 

After all the exploring, why not stop by a local restaurant or tapas bar, or even try a local sweet treat from one of Barcelona’s many bakeries?
