Plans to Enjoy with the Family in Barcelona This Christmas 2025
With Christmas just around the corner, finding the best things to do can be a bit overwhelming — especially if you’re in Barcelona and it’s your first time visiting the city during the holiday season with your family!
That’s why we’ve rounded up the best activities to help you get into the Christmas spirit during your stay in Barcelona. Whether you’re travelling with kids or adults, you’ll find plenty of opportunities to enjoy quality family time in the city.
Montjuïc Magic Fountain
During the day, you can admire the Montjuïc fountains located in front of the Palau de Montjuïc and the National Art Museum. However, during the Christmas season they transform into an incredible light show!
Running at night from Thursday to Saturday, the show begins at 8 p.m. and lasts for one hour, offering unforgettable evening entertainment at the Magic Fountain of Montjuïc. We recommend heading down early to get a good spot and enjoy these fantastic fountains. This is truly one of the best ways to enjoy a winter trip to Barcelona with kids!

Christmas Lights in Barcelona
Throughout the entire Christmas season in Barcelona, the streets shine bright with festive Christmas lights that cover the city. Every year the designs get more original, with better quality and even more lights, making the experience truly magical. There’s nothing quite like seeing the city illuminated every night to help you and your family get into the Christmas spirit.

Christmas Markets in Barcelona: Fira de Santa Llúcia
Take your family to the 239th edition of one of Barcelona’s most iconic Christmas markets, the Fira de Santa Llúcia! A true Christmas classic in Barcelona, it attracts thousands of visitors every year. Located right in front of the Barcelona Cathedral, the street fills with stalls selling traditional Christmas gifts—perfect for a bit of festive shopping. Here, you’ll also find some traditional Catalan treats such as turrón and other almond sweets that are especially popular in Barcelona at Christmas.

On top of that, you’ll also come across other traditional gifts, such as the quirky Caganers. These humorous figurines are very popular at Christmas, as they depict famous people with their trousers down, “doing their business on the ground”, as the tradition goes. This 19th-century Catalan collectible is a classic part of local holiday culture.

The Fira de Santa Llúcia offers a traditional way to experience Christmas in Barcelona with your family. From November 28th to December 23rd, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to enjoy this winter wonderland! Also, keep an eye out for the “Tió de Nadal“, who, according to Catalan tradition, is responsible for bringing children their Christmas gifts by “magically” producing them after being warmed by the fire on Christmas Eve.

Ice Skating in Barcelona
Nothing says Christmas quite like ice skating—especially in Barcelona! Even though it rarely snows here, locals love lacing up their skates and enjoying a session on the ice rink in the weeks leading up to Christmas. If you head over to L’Illa Diagonal, you’ll find two things: the large shopping centre and the seasonal ice rink (open until January 5th).

Don’t just take our word for it — head over with your family and make unforgettable memories together this Christmas in Barcelona.
Visit Els Llums de Sant Pau
