Planeta Vida

The main permanent exhibit at the Museu Blau is called “Planeta Vida”. This exhibit explores the way that Earth became what it is today. It looks at how physical and chemical environments came together to create what we call home now. It also explores how us humans affect this system and form a global ecosystem.

Planeta Vida is broken down into three sections: ‘Biography of the Earth’, ‘Earth Today’ and “Islands of Science’. This first section takes a look at the history of life on Earth how it evolved to be what it is today. The second section is about the way the Earth is today, as the name would suggest. The last section is a semi-permanent section that displays different exhibits focusing on subjects such as evolution, animal behavior and the Mediterranean.

The lost Giant of the Cretaceous

The temporary exhibitions they have at the Museu Blau dive deeper into one specific subject of natural science. The current exhibit on display is “Spinosaurus, The Lost Giant of the Cretaceous”. Here, you will learn about the first known dinosaur to adapt to swim and is the largest known carnivorous dinosaur.

This exhibit features the fossils of this great dinosaur and follows the journey it took to be here at the museum today. The exhibit was organized by the National Geographic Society and the University of Chicago. It’s a must see for anyone with children interested in dinosaurs.

The Science Nest

For families with children who are younger than six, visit the Science Nest. This is an area of the museum designed for young kids to explore science. The main goal of the Nest is to stimulate an interest in science and to let them have the fun of discovering the world around them. These sessions are 30 minutes each and are not an extra charge.

Jardí Botànic

With the museum ticket you also have free access to Jardí Botànicwhich is located in Montjuic. These botanical gardens in Barcelona aim to demonstrate the similarities between the landscapes of the Mediterranean with others around the world. They pull together plants representing a wide range of Mediterranean-type climates in order to create the beautiful landscapes around the world. In addition to these, the garden also has a well-developed Bonsai garden, showcasing the beautiful Japanese-style art of plant sculptures. It will be a lovely addition to a day at the Museu Blau.
