El Born is located in the vibrant district of Ciutat Vella, situated between the historic Gothic Quarter and the relaxing Ciutadella Park. 1. Palau de la Música Catalana 

Opened in 1908 as the headquarters of the “Orfeó Català“, the Palau de la Música Catalana is an iconic venue in El Born. The concert hall features an impressive interior of Catalan modernist style, the only one of its kind in the world declared World Heritage by UNESCO, and where over 150 performances are held throughout the year.

2. Picasso Museum 

When visiting the Picasso Museum, you can explore the entire life and work of the Málaga-born painter Pablo Picasso. Learn all about one of the most famous Spanish artists, including how he fell in love with Barcelona when he moved here as a young artist. Picasso’s genius is showcased here in the more than 4,000 pieces that make up the permanent collection.  

You can access the museum for free on the following days and times:   

• The first Sunday of every month (reservation required*) 

• The open days: January 4th, 5th, February 12th, May 18th, and September 24th (reservation required*) 

• From October 14th to April 13th: Thursdays from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM (reservation required*) 

• From April 15th to October 12th: Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM (reservation required*)

3. Church of Santa María del Mar 

The most iconic monument of the Born neighborhood is the church of Santa María del Mar. This magnificent basilica, a standout example of Catalan Gothic architecture, was built in the 14th century and has withstood the test of time to this day. 4. El Born Centre of Culture and Memory

El Born CCM is a space created for the city to commemorate local and national events, as well as events that have affected communities around the world. Inside the center are the historical remains of the neighborhood demolished by Philip V, but many other exhibitions are also on display. In addition, it is completely free for the public!

5. Santa Caterina Market 

Another visit well worth making is the Santa Caterina Market. This bustling food market was built on the site of the former Convent of Santa Caterina, which after the civil war became the main food supplier for the towns on the outskirts of Barcelona. Today, the lively market sells a wide range of Spanish delicacies, fruits, vegetables, flowers, and meats, including the classic specialty of Iberian ham. 

6. The Chocolate Museum  

Located in the former Convent of Sant Agustí Vell, the Chocolate Museum is perfect for lovers of this sweet treat. Here you can learn about the history of chocolate in Barcelona and taste delicious artisanal products.
