Barcelona is one of Europe’s top shopping destinations, it has everything from central shopping centres and boutiques to open-air complexes and waterfront shopping. With such a variety of locations and atmospheres, there’s something to suit every kind of shopper. 

Better yet, a day of shopping can easily be combined with sightseeing and exploring the city, whether that means discovering Montjuïc, strolling along the waterfront or spending some time at the beach. Here are 5 of the best shopping centres to visit during your stay in Barcelona. 

1.Las Arenas 

Located right by Plaça de España and at the foot of Montjuïc, Las Arenas offers more than 100 shops on six different floors, and even has a cinema, gym and spa.  

Its design is based on the traditional Spanish bullring, allowing natural light to shine through the vast quantities of glass used in its construction. 

What’s more is that after a full day of shopping you can unwind on the rooftop restaurant with an al fresco dinner and enjoy panoramic views over Barcelona and Montjuïc. You might also get the chance to see Montjuïc’s Magic Fountain on summer evenings.

2.L’illa Diagonal 

Due to its impressive size, L’illa Diagonal is one of Barcelona’s largest shopping centres. When it opened in 1993, it became the first commercial complex built in the city that decade. 

Today the centre covers over 35.000m² and is home to around 170 shops, and a hotel with more than 300 rooms. The current directory includes well-loved Spanish brands such as Bimba y Lola and Brownie. 

There is also a range of restaurants and coffee shops as well as a food hall on the ground floor which offer a variety of foods from around the world.

3.Maremagnum 

One of Maremagnum’s biggest advantages is its seven-day yearly opening schedule, making it a convenient option for Sunday shopping in Barcelona. 

Located in Port Vell, right next to the Barcelona Aquarium, its waterfront setting makes it a great place to combine shopping with dining and sightseeing. The centre is also home to a wide range of restaurants, as well as the Time Out Market Barcelona on the top floor, where you can enjoy local food while taking in views over the city and Port Vell.

4.Diagonal Mar 

Located in Barcelona’s Sant Martí district, Diagonal Mar is a modern shopping destination close to the city’s coastline. The centre brings together a wide range of fashion, beauty, technology and lifestyle stores, alongside numerous cafés and restaurants and a cinema, making it easy to spend several hours here. 

Its location is one of its biggest advantages. Just a short distance from the beach and Parc de Diagonal Mar, you can easily combine a shopping trip with a walk by the sea or a swim.

5.Glòries 

As well as popular high street stores, Westfield Glòries offers a wide variety of shops covering fashion, beauty, sports, technology and everyday essentials, as well as a hypermarket. Located on Avinguda Diagonal in the Poblenou area, the centre combines shopping with dining and leisure in a modern, open setting.  

Need a food break? There are plenty of cafes and restaurants throughout the shopping centre while Mercat de Glòries brings together a variety of food options to suit different tastes. The centre also offers a cinema, events and activities throughout the year, making Westfield Glòries a great place to spend a few hours shopping, eating and enjoying some leisure time in Barcelona.
