Circuit Festival
From 1st to 9th August, Barcelona hosts Circuit Festival, the world’s largest international LGBTQ+ festival. The event brings together thousands of visitors for an exciting programme of daytime and nighttime parties, world-renowned DJs, spectacular pool parties, and live entertainment. More than just a festival, Circuit is known for creating a welcoming, inclusive and safe space where everyone can celebrate freely and connect with people from around the world.
Brunch Electronik Festival
From 7th to 9th August, Brunch Electronik Festival returns to Parc del Fòrum and turns it into one of Barcelona’s biggest open-air music venues. Expect an outstanding programme of electronic music featuring acclaimed international DJs alongside exciting up-and-coming artists, with several stages offering different styles throughout the weekend. Set against the Mediterranean coastline, the festival combines an energetic atmosphere with a strong commitment to community, equality and sustainability, making it one of the highlights of Barcelona’s summer festival calendar.
Street Parties and Local Celebrations
Festa Major de Gràcia
From 15th to 21st August, the Festa Major de Gràcia brings one of Barcelona’s most colourful neighbourhoods to life with a full week of free celebrations. Its main highlight is the famous competition for the best-decorated street, where residents transform the area with creative and imaginative displays. Visitors can also enjoy a wide range of concerts, shows, workshops and activities, including plenty of family-friendly options for children.
Festa Major de Sants
Between 22nd and 30th of August, the Sants neighbourhood comes alive for the Festa Major de Sants, one of Barcelona’s most authentic local festivals. Throughout the week, visitors can enjoy classic festivities including casteller performances, thrilling correfocs (fire runs), and lively parades featuring gegants (giants) and capgrossos (oversized-headed carnival figures), alongside concerts, workshops, and family-friendly activities. On 24th August, the feast day of Sant Bartomeu, the celebrations reach their official peak.
Diada Castellera de les Neus
On 1st August, head to Plaça de la Vila in Vilanova i la Geltrú to experience the Diada Castellera de les Neus, one of Catalonia’s most important human tower festivals. Featuring some of the country’s leading casteller teams, this traditional event is a true point of reference in Catalan culture and the casteller world. Located just 30-40 minutes from Barcelona by R15 train from Estació de França, Sants or Passeig de Gràcia, it’s an easy and worthwhile day trip.
As the square fills up quickly, make sure to arrive at least 30 minutes early to secure a good viewing spot.
Nits d’Estiu, Poble Espanyol
From 29th July to 30 th August Nits d’Estiu (Summer Nights) take place in the charming setting of Poble Espanyol, an open-air architectural museum on Montjuïc that recreates the charm of traditional Spanish villages. Throughout the month, visitors can enjoy four themed evenings each week, combining live music, gastronomy and a vibrant summer atmosphere.
Every Wednesday, Fiesta Caribe brings tropical rhythms, cocktails, dance classes, and a lively Caribbean party. Rock & Grill is held every Thursday in August and on Saturday 31st August and pairs live rock music with delicious barbecue dishes. Every Friday in August, Queen’s Night celebrates some of the greatest pop hits of the past decade. From 8pm to midnight, the village at Poble Espanyol comes alive with music, food, drinks and plenty of feel-good vibes. Every Saturday, Fritanga showcases Barcelona’s vibrant rumba scene with live performances from some of the city’s top rumba bands, accompanied by refreshing drinks and a selection of traditional fried tapas.
Exhibitions and Tours
Valérie Belin at the Picasso Museum
Throughout August until 6th September , escape the summer heat with a visit to the Valérie Belin exhibition at the Picasso Museum. Perfect for photography enthusiasts and lovers of contemporary art, the exhibition showcases around 30 works by the acclaimed French photographer. Through striking images, Belin explores themes such as identity, transformation, appearance, and perception offering a fascinating dialogue between photography and contemporary art.
Handy tip: The museum offers free admission on the first Sunday of every month with prior reservation, making it an excellent opportunity to discover this exhibition.
Barcelona Night Tour Bus
Available until 13 th September, the Barcelona Night Tour is a fantastic way to discover the city after sunset. Departing from Plaça Catalunya at 9.30pm, this 90-minute panoramic tour takes place aboard an open-top double-decker bus, offering spectacular views of Barcelona’s illuminated landmarks. Along the route, you’ll pass iconic sights such as the Columbus Monument, Sagrada Família, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera and the stunning Recinte Modernista de St Pau.
A live audioguide shares fascinating historical facts and local anecdotes, making this a relaxing and memorable way to experience Barcelona at night.
Open-Air Cinema
Sala Montjuïc
Set within the historic Montjuïc castle, this popular open-air cinema combines great films, live music, and delicious food in one of Barcelona’s most scenic locations. Before each screening, visitors can enjoy a live concert and a selection of food and drinks while taking in panoramic views over the city.
While most films are shown during the month of July, the programme features Sentimental Value by Joachim Trier on 1st August and The Royal Tenenbaums on 3rd August, one of Wes Anderson’s most iconic and beloved films. Both screenings are presented in English with Spanish subtitles.
