6 Winter Terraces to Try in Barcelona

You may not see snow in Barcelona, but we do have winter and boy can it get chilly! With this list of top winter terraces, you can enjoy a tipple or two al fresco during the cooler months too. Before you ask, yes they all have heaters…and with the Mediterranean sun all year round, you should be perfectly warm sitting out in these terraces.

Surf HouseSurf House Barcelona

The menu at Surf House Barcelona is simple: based on salads, nachos, hamburgers and rolls, all focusing on great quality produce. They also have spectacular freshly made juices. The restaurant is located in a beautiful place in the heart of Barceloneta, right by the Mediterranean Sea.

They offer healthy breakfasts, a casual but delicious menu, natural juices, cocktails, and even special options for vegans! They have a fantastic terrace with heaters in winter so you can chill (hopefully not literally!) outside and enjoy the views of the waves and people passing by. There is a relaxed vibe and a young atmosphere, making it a popular hangout in the area.

Surf House Barcelona doesn’t accept reservations, so if you go on a weekend, arm yourself with patience! If you like the sound of soaking up some winter sun at a beachside terrace then you’re in the right place!

Carrer de l’Almirall Aixada, 22

Terrasse AlaireTerrasse Alaire

On top of the glamorous Hotel Condes you will find the Terrasse Alaire. One of the most popular hotel terraces both by locals and tourists. It’s a fantastic restaurant based on tapas and cocktails, featuring (yes, you guessed it), a spectacular terrace. Occupying the entire roof of the hotel with exceptional views over Barcelona, including of the famous La Pedrera in the foreground and La Sagrada Familia in the background, this terrace is a real must-visit.

Funky and contemporary outdoor furniture and lamps provide a romantic and chic ambience, perfect for sitting out as the sun sets over the city. The menu features different options such as a cheese board, patatas bravas, croquetas, grilled octopus, salads and burgers. We highly suggest ordering one of their cocktails to wash it all down with…you won’t be disappointed. In short, an ideal terrace to enjoy an after work drink or dinner for two or a small group in Barcelona.

Carrer de Mallorca, 250

Pez Vela ChiringuitoPez Vela

Based at the foot of the towering W hotel, this seafood restaurant sits right on the shore line, facing Barceloneta’s beach with a menu focused mainly on paella, seafood, fresh appetizers and salads. They offer a simple cuisine, with high quality and very fresh products….and above all, a large terrace space, perfect for sitting out under the heaters and watching the waves of the Med lap at the shores.

The menu is focused on salads, rice and tapas, but it also has excellent fish and meat like Galician octopus, wild fish and Northern beef steak.  The rice dishes and the salads are their main stars, but don’t miss out on the ‘catch of the day’ fish or grilled meat if it’s on offer.

Lots of shrubbery and plants make the open terrace space feel rustic and earthy, allowing you to completely relax to the sound of the sea. With the impeccable design of their heaters, the restaurant and its magnificent terrace are already a popular spot for outdoor dining during winter in Barceloneta.

Passeig del Mare Nostrum, 19

Bar LoboBar Lobo

Bar Lobo is a contemporary and quirky tapas restaurant, run by Grupo Tragaluz. It is located in a small square just off Las Ramblas so is the perfect spot for an evening snack or drink whilst around the centre of town. They serve classic cuisine with a modern touch and flavours from the best international influences. The chefs cook with market fresh food, making home-cooked style dishes. This all dished up in a relaxed but also classy atmosphere, offering good value for money.

The padrón peppers, the guacamole and the fried artichokes are all musts. It’s a bright restaurant with large glass windows and warm lighting and cool paper lantern lights. The wonderful outdoor terrace is very popular in the winter months because being situated in a square, it traps the sun during the daytime. Perfect for a glass of vermouth with friends.  Make sure you nab a spot on the outdoor cushioned bench and don’t miss out on one of their desserts!

Carrer del Pintor Fortuny, 3

La Vinya Del SenyorLa Vinya Del Senyor

If you’re a wine lover then this is the best place to go, because the menu features pages and pages of special wines and cavas from all over the world. As you can see in the changing menu, the winery and selection of wines it is very extensive, varied and of great quality. The restaurant also has a few snacks including delicious cheeses and olives and a great outdoor patio.

Situated under the towering Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar, it’s a small but charming bar, oozing Mediterranean flare in the chic and bustling neighborhood of El Born. Sit out in the terrace area gazing at the church in front of you with a warming glass of wine. We strongly recommend that you pair your red wine with a cheese tapa (Manchego, for example) or with a good ham!

Plaza Sta Maria, 5

Merendero de la MariMerendero de la Mari

Merendero de la Mari is a classic restaurant in the Port Vell, located below the Museum of Catalan History, offering a high quality seafood cuisine specialising in fish and rice, with its signature dish “Monkfish Mari”. The restaurant is located in Palau de Mar, they have an elegant terrace with magnificent views of the harbour and the city.

Their menu begins with a selection of starters, soups and fried dishes. After that you can taste the best seafoods, rices and pastas with exquisite recipes of meat and fish from the best quality. You can finish with irresistible desserts, all accompanied by great Spanish wines and a magical view over the port of Barcelona.

The restaurant has a cosy and pleasant atmosphere and is ideal for any occasion, from a family meal out to a gathering with friends or an intimate dinner for two.
