These three delightful cafés are by far some of our favourite places to grab breakfast in Barcelona. In fact, many of our bloggers are regulars at all three. Located in the centre of Barcelona, each café offers something different in terms of food and atmosphere – there’s even something for the pickiest of eaters!
1. Brunch & Cake
Brunch & Cake is the perfect café to enjoy a relaxing, calm breakfast amongst its pastel tones and wooden tables. With an American-brunch feel about it, this café is famous for its wide variety of carefully-decorated cupcakes. If your ideal breakfast in Barcelona consists of eggs Benedict, pancakes or a super salad then Brunch & Cake should be your first port of call.
Their products are 100% natural and ecological. The creators of these tiny cakes gather ideas and are able to innovate and constantly improve their café, taking inspiration from their travels across the world. Located on Carrer d’Enric Granados, in the heart of the Eixample neighbourhood, you can enjoy your delicious breakfast inside amongst the tranquil music or outside on the terrace.

2. Flax & Kale
Flax & Kale is the place to be for all kinds of health-conscious eaters. ‘Eat better, Be happier, Live longer’ – The ‘Health Food Restaurant’ with Smoothie Bar and Juicery applies this motto straight to their delightful breakfast menus, which are available on weekdays.
Customers can choose from a variety of pastries, small bites, breakfast bowls and ‘Super Breakfasts’. Quinoa-Blueberry Muffins, Chia Flax Bagels or Royal Coconut Milk Parfait (with homemade coconut yoghurt) are just some examples of the creative cooking at this restaurant. Toast with jam or croissants are some of the more classical options available – all with that ‘healthy twist’, of course. A variety of cold-pressed juices and purees, ‘Veggie-Nut Milks’ and smoothies complete the all-round wholesome and natural experience. An extended brunch menu is available on the weekends, with salads and warm dishes.

This popular café has been serving up a traditional Spanish breakfast in Barcelona for more than 50 years. With more basic breakfast options than the other two cafés, Baixas’ coffee, juices, pastries, ham sandwiches and traditional Spanish omelettes all make for a great, authentic breakfast in Barcelona. Located in Carrer Muntaner, Baixas is a very tiny but cosy establishment with a traditional set of customers who regularly dine at the joint for breakfast before work. If you want to mix it with the locals, and feel like a true Catalan for the day, this delightful Barcelona café is the perfect place to do so.
