Barcelona’s Top 5 Picnic Spots

Barcelona Views El Carmel

Last updated: November 2017

Barcelona is a culinary wonderland! There are so many great restaurants, visitors and locals alike really are spoilt for choice. But sometimes it’s just nice to kick back and relax with something of a DIY feast, and with the range of local products on offer, a Barcelona picnic is a great way of experimenting with Catalan cuisine. Hitting La Boqueria market, or the range of delicatessens and bakeries dotted around the city, you can find some mouthwatering delights ideal for your picnic basket – freshly baked bread, classic jamón, manchego cheese and chunky olives to name but a few!  All that’s missing is that perfect location for your picnic in Barcelona, so we’re here to offer you our top tips to finding a city-picnic hot-spot!

Parc de la Ciutadella, Picnic in Barcelona1. Parc Ciutadella

A firm favourite amongst the parks of the city, Ciutadella Park is a wonderful place for a picnic stop during your sightseeing tour of Barcelona. Located in the heart of the city, just off the old town, Ciutadella is great place for people of all ages to enjoy. The Arc de Triomf and Zoo, along with the beautiful fountain, pedalo lake and mysterious mammoth provide plenty of culture and entertainment, whilst the grassy, palm tree-laced stretches are ideal for lazing in the sun and setting up your perfect Barcelona picnic.

2. Barceloneta Beach

What better way to nibble on Catalan food than with sand between your toes and the sound of the Med splashing in the background? Barceloneta beach is a great choice for a sunny picnic in Barcelona. This happening, seafront location, is vibrant and cool with a definite joie de vivre. And as evening draws in and the sunset paints the sky there is a certain romance in the air, ideal for sharing with that special someone 😉 !

Sagrada Familia Barcelona Spain, Picnic in Barcelona3. The Sagrada Familia

Gaudi’s masterpiece is without a doubt one of the most incredible structures in the city, so how about admiring its sensational façade as you munch away at your Barcelona picnic in one of the adjacent green squares: Plaça de Gaudí or Plaça de la Sagrada Família. Take in this towering emblem of the city as you tuck in to some tasty local treats!

4. El Carmel Bunker

Sat high above the city is the little known echo of the Spanish Civil War, El Carmel Bunker. Offering perhaps the best views of Barcelona, this beautiful hilltop ruin is one of the city’s best kept secrets. With 360o vistas stretching for miles around, and none of the snap happy crowds typical of such beautiful locations, El Carmel Bunker is one of the best possible places for a picnic in Barcelona.

Jardins de Pedralbes, Picnic in Barcelona5. Pedralbes Palace Gardens

Fashioned in the style of the classic gardens of a stately home , the Jardins del Palau de Pedralbes offer an escape from the hustle and bustle of vivacious Barcelona. Trimmed and pruned to perfection, this beautiful location is ideal for a leisurely stroll and lazy lunch, a top choice for a chilled out picnic in Barcelona!

With so many interesting spots around, a Barcelona picnic sure is a great way of combining some of the Catalan capital’s top locations with some delicious, fresh local cuisine!
